Economics and Business Administration from Digital marketing student’s point of view

Before applying to Metropolia, I went to the Työväen Akatemia open university to see if the business was ’’my thing’’ since I was interested in psychology also. During my time there I got really interested in marketing and wanted to study it more.

One thing that made me interested in Metropolia was that you could choose digital marketing as your major and that was one of the reasons why I chose to apply here. Although Metropolia was not my first choice, I could not be more than happy with the place where I’m right now.

My first year was filled with core business studies. The courses were a variety of basic marketing, finance, business law and communication studies. This helped everyone to see what topics they are interested in since we had to choose our major by the end of the year. For me, it was an easy choice since I already knew I liked digital marketing. Overall, all of the other subjects have also provided me with extremely valuable information, for example, business law-related studies.

But why choose Metopolia Ammattikorkeakoulu?

Being interested also in psychology, I was really happy to see how much it’s involved in our studies. According to the godfather of marketing Philip Kotler, marketing is the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market at a profit. Marketing also identifies unfulfilled needs and desires. Based on this statement only, you can have a sense of how psychology goes alongside marketing.

Besides the psychological aspect, I was surprised to see how interesting digital marketing studies are. Living in a digital world, the demand for digital marketers is increasing day by day. At Metropolia, I have got interested in e-commerce and data-driven marketing. These studies have inspired me to even start to learn coding in my free time and think about opening my own online store. I wouldn’t have imagined how much my interests would be changed during my studies when I first started. Being also interested in data and coding, there have been summer courses available for these studies that you can add to your credits. Right now, I’m eager to pursue a career in data-driven marketing in near future.
